How we are helping

We are supporting Hope Foundation to conduct a strategic planning retreat and share video diaries and survey findings with stakeholders to inform advocacy and enhance service delivery for people affected by Lupus.

About the project

About the project

The Foundation’s capacity strengthening grants stream supports smaller Commonwealth civil society organisations in smaller Member States, building their expertise and enhancing their capacity to influence policy.

Hope Foundation is committed to improving the lives of people affected by Lupus in Barbados. To deepen its impact and ensure a stronger future direction, the organisation will undertake strategic planning while raising awareness of Lupus through video storytelling and data collection. This grant will support the development of new tools to engage stakeholders, empower patients, and shape advocacy grounded in real experiences.

The key actions for this project are:

  • Producing video diaries highlighting the lived experiences of people affected by Lupus.
  • Conducting a survey to collect data on the impact of Lupus on patient lives and relationships.
  • Hosting a strategic planning retreat to evaluate existing services and develop a three-year plan.
  • Presenting the video diaries and data to key stakeholders, including health sector actors and policy-makers.

As a result of the project, it is hoped that Hope Foundation will have a stronger strategic direction, underpinned by a three-year plan to ensure focused and sustainable action. Video diaries and data will enhance awareness of Lupus, supporting calls for stronger health systems and policy responses. Patients will feel more visible and empowered, and the organisation will be better equipped for effective service delivery.

Hope Foundation

Hope Foundation was established in 1991 and has defined itself as a legitimate player in the health sector through patient advocacy related to lesser-known chronic diseases in Barbados. This has been successfully executed by a group of dedicated and committed volunteers who share a common vision of quality living for all.
