How we are helping

We are supporting Youth Challenge Guyana to consult stakeholders, identify priorities, and enhance staff capacity for stronger engagement and evidence-based programming.

About the project

The Foundation’s capacity strengthening grants stream supports smaller Commonwealth civil society organisations in smaller Member States, building their expertise and enhancing their capacity to influence policy.

Youth Challenge Guyana empowers young people through leadership and community development initiatives. To strengthen its ability to attract the resources needed to expand its impact, the organisation is focusing on improving internal alignment, donor engagement, and staff capacity. With this grant, Youth Challenge Guyana will engage a consultant to lead a process to identify strategic priorities and guide future programming and outreach.

The key actions for this project are:

  • Strategic assessment and planning
  • Engaging a consultant to conduct an environmental scan and desk review to identify key issues and opportunities.
  • Hosting workshops and feedback sessions with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights and inform planning.

As a result of the project, it is hoped that Youth Challenge Guyana will have a clearer strategic focus and strengthened relationships with current and prospective partners. The organisation will be better equipped to respond to youth and community development needs through enhanced staff capacity and improved communications, enabling Youth Challenge Guyana to grow its reach, build new alliances, and deliver evidence-based, community-driven programmes.

Youth Challenge Guyana

Youth Challenge Guyana (YCG) enhances the lives of youth through health, education, life skills and livelihood. Youth Challenge International began conducting projects in Guyana in 1989 with Guyanese and Canadian youth. In 1991 the Guyanese youth started their own organisation to provide services to the Guyanese community especially in the remote regions where services were scarce in the areas of health, education and infrastructure.
